West of the freeway the housing is old. Which sewer agency am I in?
Encinitas has three: the city's Encinitas Sanitary Division and Cardiff Sanitary Division, and the Leucadia Wastewater District, which also serves part of Olivenhain. Each has its own permit and its own rule on where your lateral ends. Give us the address and we'll tell you which, and we pull the right permit for the replacement.
Do roots really get into pipes near the beach?
Yes. Sandy soil near the bluff drains fast, which makes a leaking clay joint the wettest thing in the yard, and the ficus and eucalyptus along the older Leucadia streets have roots that run a long way for it. Root cutting is temporary; a liner or a burst is permanent.
Can you connect an Olivenhain house from septic to sewer?
Where the sewer main has been extended to the street, yes. It's a permitted lateral installation from the house to the main, a proper abandonment of the tank under county rules, and the district's connection fee, which is separate from our price. We'll tell you all three numbers before you decide.
